Goonj was not started at some specific point of time or
date, but in fact it was a coming together of few people who actually always had the likeness for dramatics even before they actually met with each other, and came up together with great performances and the biggest achievement till date for society,by making a movie which
was appreciated in all spheres. Currently society is running strong and has a tremendous
support base and boasts of very talented students from college, and aspire to do
great and carry on the good work that the society has been doing in the past.
Goonj has been actively participating at various national
level dramatics competition; major breakthrough for goonj came in 2005 when goonj
stood first in dramatics event in technical college’s category and fourth overall,
surpassing many art colleges in Antaragni’05, annual cultural fest of IIT Kanpur.
In 2006 Goonj made a video of college which personified
the experiences and aspirations of students who aspire to make a difference in various
fields in addition to being an engineer.
In 2007 Goonj made a 1 hour 15 minutes movie titled ‘INQLAAB…a
reason to sacrifice’ which was totally made by the students of college. Altogether 35 students were involved in the movie. Management, faculty,
staff and student fraternity supported the society and the movie came into existence.
The movie was screened in various engineering colleges across UPTU, and at INDIA
HABITAT CENTRE, NEW DELHI, in 2007. Movie showcased the freedom struggle of India.

Other than participating in and organizing dramatics events,
at college level, Goonj organizes events such as essay writing competition, poster
making competition, poetry competitions aiming at developing a sense of nationalism
among students of college.
