          Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College, Ghaziabad

                            
                      “AKGEC Mini Marathon”
Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College was established in 1998 with the sole objective of providing a morally sound educational system, which not only produced ace technical professionals but also made Samaritans of them. The college has persistently been achieving its endeavors for various years since inception. This year the college is the recipient of Academic Excellence award for the best Engineering College of UP.
College puts in lots of efforts to make its students excel in all walks of life. Reflection of diligence put in by the college can be seen in many events and social cause. In continuation with this, Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College (AKGEC), is organizing “Mini Marathon” on 9th September,2009 .The program is co sponsored by HCL and Legrand-Authorised Distributor M/s Shiv Electric Co., Ghaziabad. The Media Partner of the event is “Amar Ujala. The theme of the event is “Anti Ragging”.
The main aim of this marathon is to create awareness against this heinous crime named “Ragging”. This event will make the students as well as various other colleges to realize the importance for prevention of ragging in educational institutions, particularly in Higher Education.
The “Mini Marathon” will start with Flag off at 5:00 PM on 9th September from the college Main Gate by the Chief Guest All participants will be addressed by Director Dr.R.K.Agarwal for their motivation before the flag-off. The main participants of the event will be the Faculty, Staff and Students of Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College.  The total expected strength in the event is about 1200 participants. The participants will cover approximately five Km distance around the college and will finish at AKGEC Main Gate. The Mini Marathon is divided into two sections. The first one is named Athlete’s Run and is a competitive section. The second one is named Harmony Run and is a noncompetitive section. Medals and Cash Prize of Rs.1500/-,1000/- and 500/- will be given to First, Second and Third winner respectively under Boys and Girls category. In addition many other consolation prizes will be given in both the sections for the motivation of the participants. All participants will be wearing the T-shirt with anti- ragging message to reinforce their commitment for the cause.
The reasons that triggered the college in taking this lead for building the anti ragging sentiment by combining it with a popular sports activity are not unusual for AKGEC. The college not only aims at the academic development of the students but also pays a great deal of attention in letting its students into the very spirit of competition, heightening their technical as well as managerial skills, thus achieving a comprehensive development of its students and also inculcating in them a pragmatic approach towards life. For bolstering up their moral to perform better, college provides various awards and rewards to its students. There are many technical societies running in the college that always plays a vital role in adding new perspectives to the environment prevalent in the college.
Similarly college takes a number of initiatives for sensitizing its students to the social issues of the day. A very popular Annual blood Donation Camp in association with Rotary Blood Bank is an example such initiatives. This year college also got the UPTU Excellence award by Governor of U.P. and college also topped in the Bareilly Sports meet. Goonj the artistic society of the college has also made a feature film named” INQUILAB” where starring, script writing, directing and all other tasks have been done by the students itself and the film has been screened in many places and colleges and even at India Habitat Centre, Delhi.
Hence the initiative to tackle the burning issues of “ragging” is timely and entirely in line with the college culture. We here at A.K.G.E.C have adopted various measures to eradicate this word or perhaps this fear from each one’s heart. Seniors of the college have themselves put their step forward in doing the same. A mini “Marathon Run” is being organized by the seniors of the college for spreading the awareness regarding anti ragging measures. Such a run would boost up each and every student to stop this activity of ragging. The seniors here at AKGEC have sown the seed for anti ragging with a hope that the seed would bloom out into a flower whose aroma would stamp out the word ragging from the society. AKGECians would be role model for the others in making a ragging free world.
