PRESS RELEASE 09/09/09 AJAY KUMAR GARG ENGINEERING COLLEGE, GHAZIABAD “MINI MARATHON’09” Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College organized a “Mini Marathon” run on 9th September 2009 for the noble cause of ostracizing ragging and spreading awareness regarding the prevailing issues of ragging. The main objective of this run is to make an step forward towards removing this so called word from the society. Taking the senior students of AKGEC along with the faculty and staff has successfully sown the seed for the noble cause and hopes that this spirit would be encouraged by each institution of the region. The marathon run is flagged off at 4:30 pm from AKGEC main gate by the chief guest Mr. Rajiv Thappar, vice president HCL. During his address to the participants and the gathering he specified the need to spread this spirit throughout the country to make the higher education campuses completely ragging free. He also appreciated the students and faculty of the college specially director Dr.R.K.Agarwal for playing the lead role in achieving such a noble objective. Director Dr.R.K.Agarwal during his motivational address to the gathering expressed his happiness for faculty staff and students of the college for developing an anti-ragging sentiment within the college to make the campus completely ragging free. The “Mini Marathon” was coordinated by Prof.P.K.Sharda,Dean of student’s welfare accompanied by the sports teacher Mr.Pratap Singh and active participation of the students. The mini marathon was divided into two sections .The first one is named “Athlete’s run” and it’s a competitive section. A total of nearly 1050 participants were in this section. The second one is named “harmony run” and it’s a non-competitive section. Around 500 participants were in this section. After covering the distance Mini marathon ended at AKGEC’s main gate. All the participants were seen very excited and committed to meet the objective of this mini marathon. The program ended with the distribution of prizes to the winners. Medals and cash prize of Rs.1500/-,1000/- and 500/- were given to the winners. In addition to this, many other consolation prizes were given in both the section for the motivation of the participants.
